More on Windows Vista

So when I wasn’t running around being social this weekend (that post is for another blog), I was playing with my new install of Windows Vista Beta 2. Here are some of my findings:

So far I’m not having any major driver problems (Aside from my long-discontinued webcam, but that’s to be expected)… Nvidia has GeForce drivers available for the current beta, Logitech’s Windows XP driver for my G15 keyboard works fine in Vista (though they don’t have a version of MouseWare available for Vista. That’s probably in development, though) and Promise had a XP driver on their website that worked fine for my IDE controller card.

World Of Warcraft runs fine under Vista, no patches or compatibility modes required. The new Blizzard Background Downloader does have an issue, though… It throws up an error when it tries to run. This can be solved by browsing to your WOW install directory, right-clicking on backgrounddownloader.exe (or whatever it’s called) and selecting the properties for the file. I have mine set to Windows XP SP2 compatabilty mode and checked the “Run as Administrator” option and then it ran with no problems :)

IE 7 is… interesting. It looks to me to be a case of too little too late. I mean, it has a funky transparent bar across the top, but everything it does Firefox does better.

The security popups aren’t as annoying as some people have made them out to be, and they are easily disabled by unchecking one checkbox in your User Setup page.

That’s about all the impressions I have for now, but stay tuned!
